We need to ensure that every girl have an opportunity of access to Education especially those affected by conflict and crisis at Northern Ethiopia, Afar Region.
ACIDA is legally registered as a national non- governmental organization (NGO) in November 2007 with a registration number 2290 that focused on charity works and activities in Afar National Regional State (ANRS), Ethiopia.
ACISDA is one of the leading national humanitarian women led organizations headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a project coordination office at its program operational areas of Afar region Semera town. The organization has an excellent working relationship with its communities and grass-root level stakeholders, funding partners, and local government officials.
ACISDA is concerned to improving the life condition of most marginalized and hard-to-reach Afar pastoral women and girls’ in terms of gender equality, economic empowerment of women and girls, ending all forms of violence against women and girls (EVAWG) and including harmful traditional practices (HTPs). maternal neonatal health improvement, addressing access to quality education for Afar pastoral children’s particularly focusing on girls education and children with disability (CWD), facilitate to enhance the engagement of women and girls in peace building conflict mitigation, and emergency preparedness and response programs.
Currently ACISDA is received a global grant award-winning local (NGO) from Feminist Malala Fund in order to implement the project entitled (Addressing the Education Barriers of Pastoral Girls through Improving Social norms, Promoting Gender Inclusive Education, and upgrading Inadequate Learning Conditions for Girls). In addition, ACISDA is Medallion Award Winner of Afar Region in early 2015 as best NGO performing in Afar Region, and similarly received recognition certificate from different Woredas/Districts local government offices on GBV and girls education.
One of the mandates of ACISDA is to support member states in their efforts to achieve women’s economic empowerment through a wide range of strategies and programs and increase incomes of women and girls in their economic viability and independence using a set of prioritized interventions. Address existing social and economic barriers to women’s food security and nutrition by ensuring their equal entitlements, access to and control over assets, resources and services. Additionally, facilitating to full, free, and informed choice regarding all aspects of sexuality and reproduction through promoting human right based approach (HRBA), expanding access to information and services related to contraception, safe abortion and post abortion care, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, cervical cancer, and more. We are focusing on enabling facilities and providers to offer high-quality .maternal health-care, including antenatal and postnatal care, essential and emergency obstetric care, fistula prevention and treatment, and safe surgical obstetric care. In addition,
addressing and preventing GBV incidence’s, and supporting survivors of women and girls through facilitating comprehensive GBV services in light of Survivor-centered approach, building the capacity of health care providers and health facilities to ensure survivor-centered GBV services, increasing multi-sectorial stakeholder’s engagement to prevent and response the upcoming SGBV incidences, enhancing the livelihood condition of GBV survivors, and working with communities to address harmful gender social norms .
Moreover, ACISDA is focusing on access to education for girls, young mothers, and children with disability (CWD) through improving their educational barriers, ensuring that education services and policies are gender-responsive in emergency and humanitarian settings, with specific attention to girls and young women needs and risk of dropping out of school, promote menstrual hygiene and reproductive health education, and strengthen grass-root level girls agencies and social media girls education activists to fulfill their dream.
ACISDA is working in local government capacity building activities particularly targeted on grass-root level women development associations, women led private enterprise, women & girls right activists, women & social affair office, and grass-root women political representatives.. In this regards, facilitate to create a safe environment for women and girls to participate and actively engage in peace building processes and emergency response program. Make sure with a particular attention of women and girls participation in any peace building and humanitarian response actions. Create livelihood opportunities, and social protection, and special attention should be dedicated to support women and girls in conflict-affected areas, women refugees and internal displaced people (IDP).
ACISDA has its Financial Management and Internal Control Systems in place to manage its project grants and implementing in cost-effective manner. Therefore, ACISDA has annual organizational budget plan which is to be approved by the general assembly at the beginning of every fiscal year. This annual organizational budget plan is well documented and is sent to the charities and civil society agency of Ethiopia. ACISDA has financial guidelines containing policies and procedures on how to prepare the grand as well as project budgets including how to develop common cost allocations across projects. The budget process involves not only the finance staff but also the program staff of the organization including the field staff. Furthermore, the strategic plan of the organization contains the three years financial plan of the organization that can be a springboard for the preparation of annual organizational budget plan.
ACISDA uses Peachtree Quantum Accounting Software and Double entry accounting system and also uses modified cash base accounting system. ACISDA’s are controls in place concerning the preparation and approval of transactions, ensuring that all transactions correctly made and adequately explained. ACISDA’s uses the chart of accounts adequate to properly account for and report on donors, activities and disbursement categories. ACISDA’s retained and pay taxes and pension for the concerned office on the due date. In the organization invoices or requests for expense reimbursements supported by appropriate receipts or approval indicating receipt of goods or services. ACISDA’s policy effectively communicated to all appropriate persons in writing. The authorization cheque signing, payment recording and bank reconciliation functions are clearly segregated. ACISDA uses two signatories to effect payments. ACISDA have a mechanism in place for management to monitor whether the internal controls are working or not. ACISDA has an internal auditor which answerable to the general assembly of the organization. Besides, the organization will be audited at project level as well as at organizational level in annually basis respectively.

The ACISDA has its board members and the executive director. The board members are leading by female. ACISDA has a board having 5 members (3 female) and, professionally, it has 1 accounting, 1 management, 1 sociologist. The reaming 2 are male and professionally, it has 1 civil engineer, and 1 public administration. The executive director has accountable to the boards as well as the general assembly of ACISDA. The ACISDA organization projects activity are directing and leading by the Executive Director of ACISDA. The Executive Director has been submitting each projects progress report in each quarter for the board members, government bodies and donors/partner organization. The board committees members have conduct a meeting in each quarter in order to monitor the progress of each ACISDA projects implementation. In line with, the board members closely follow-up and monitor each projects achievement towards to the organization mission and strategic direction. In addition, ACISDA shall have a general assembly meeting once per year.
